TopGun A-4 Skyhawks
Being a TopGun instructor, Heater had the fortune to be able not only to fly the A-4, but also have the opportunity to put on film the aircraft performing the role it did so well. In this photo, Heater catches a pair of camouflaged TopGun’s “Mongooses” out over the mountains near NAS Miramar.

“Heinemann’s Hotrod”, “The Scooter”, “The Mongoose”……..all nicknames for the venerable A-4 Skyhawk that played such an important role in combat and in training of fighter aircrews. At TopGun, the instructors used the A-4’s similar size and great maneuverability to simulate enemy aircraft. Being a TopGun instructor, Heater had the fortune to be able not only to fly the A-4, but also have the opportunity to put on film the aircraft performing the role it did so well.
